Just been checking the TNS list of British Nursing Agencies and have discovered that the web address for one of my clients, Advance Nursing Agency, 18 Union St., Southport, Merseyside PR9 0QE, is down as ana-nursing-agency.co.uk. Their address has changed to www.advance-nursing-agency.co.uk and I would be obliged if next time the site is being updated you could make the necessary adjustment. Thanks Mick Cathcart

I am a British citizen living in Norway. I was trained in the USA as a nurse. I have 7 years experience as an RN, including medical/surgical, cardiology, (was also head nurse of a cardiac step down unit with post open heart patients). I am also trained and experienced in Emergency nursing, and currently hold the certification of T.N.C.C. ( Trauma nurse core curriculum) I have applied for my British license, and expect it to be approved fairly soon. Having had quite a few obstacles to overcome in Norway, not the least of which is the language, I have decided to investigate the possibilities of moving to England and working as a nurse. I have 2 children and a Norwegian husband, so this would be a decision I am not taking lightly. Possibly I could live partly in England and partly in Norway. However I am not able to work as an RN in Norway, and need to get back to nursing for both financial and to keep my career on the right track. Can you advise me about the best way I should go about this? I have seen the agencies advertised on the internet, with wonderful salaries, but I wonder if this is realistic and if I would be able to make a steady living based on agency work. What are the basic staff nurse salaries in A&E departments? Are there any agencies who provide housing? I would just need a small apartment. Are there any travelling nursing agencies as there are in the USA? I would appreciate any and all advice you can give me. Sincerely, Elizabeth Mentzoni.

I am a current US-Licensed Registered Nurse and presently working in an acute-care facility here in Texas, USA. I got some Filipino friends who are willing to work in England as Registered Nurses. Basically, I have no idea of the British Nursing System. How can they be qualified? Who can we get in touch with? What are the needed documents? These Filipino nurses are well-trained and had been in nursing for years. They are presently working at one of the hospitals in the Philippines. Can you help me regarding this matter? If there is a reason why our agency can't be on your list, I would appreciate you letting me know, rather than my keep writing you emails and keep being ignored. I'm currently attending the University of Florida and plan on graduating August 7th (1999). I have been in correspondence with a University in London and have expressed my interest in attending. However, my question is whether or not a degree in Nurse-midwifery recieved in London will transfer over to the states. I would appreciate any information you could provide me with. I realize that this is an odd question for you because your organization does not handle these type of situations however, I don't know where to go with this question. Thankyou so very much. Dear Sirs I hope you can help me. I work for a company called RDF Television and we have been commissioned by Channel 4 to make a documentary series called 'Shipwreck'. In brief the project will involve sending 16 young adults, aged between 18 and 22 years of age, to a Caribbean or South pacific Island for three months. They will be living in shipwrecked conditions, and they will be filmed for the full three months, watching how they survive, cooperate with each other, adapt to the changes and situations they face etc. The reason I am contacting you is that we would like at least one of the candidates to be medically trained, in the hope that most minor injuries, illnesses can be treated on site! Is there anyway that you could contact people, around this age group and find out if anybody would be interested in taking part? They would be required to spend three months on the island from the end of August until November. If you have any nurses who are interested they can contact me on 0171 313 6774, or on the above email address. Many thanks in advance for all your help with this, and I look forward to hearing from you or some candidates soon. Regards Danielle

I am an RN working in Geriatrics and starting work in a small acute care hospital. I hope to move to England in the near future to continue work in the same fields. I'd like to contact other Canadian RN's who are planning to move to the UK or already done so, just to get their experiences and tips. Is it fairly easy to obtain work as a Geriatric nurse? Most recruitment agencies that I have read about seem to want acute care nurses. Correspondence with all welcome Thanks, Deanna

My apologies, but I am not a nurse. I have recently returned from the UK and am writing a story on living and working in London (freelance). I merely wish to seek your approval to name your web site as an excellent start off point for any nurse contempating a move to the UK this summer. It is a fairly standard piece, more a "How To.." than a piece of comment. As yet I have no agreement to publish it (it's still obviously a work in progress) but I can always send you a copy once it's completed for your approval. I would also appreciate any comments you wish to make, which can be directed to the email address I've listed above. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. ancestral visa from January 2000. I am interested in gaining more
information and the possibility of registering with your agency. I
completed my general training in 1976. Since then I have worked in a
variety of nursing positions - clinical, management and education in
both the Australian public and private health systems. I have
qualifications in Neuroscience, Intensive Care and Health
Administration. For the last three years I have been employed as a
Clinical Nurse in an ICU/HDU/CCU. Hoping to hear from you soon.

Hi,

I am a midwife who has been qualified for just under two years. Previous to that I was an RGN on gynae. I see from your website that you provide staff for Milton Keynes.

I live within half an hours drive of Milton Keynes, and would be interested to know how much work is available there. I am presently employed full time elsewhere, although I may be interested in doing some extra shifts if they are available in MK.

Many Thanks

Subject: From Australia...
Date: 13 May 1998 6:07

Dear Sir/Madam,

It was a pleasant surprise to stumble across your home page today. I am a Registered Nurse in Brisbane, Australia and specialise in Emergency Nursing. I currently work for the largest Emergency Department in the state of Queensland and I know that I can offer you a great deal. I plan to travel to the UK in October 1998 and am interested in joining an agency to assist me with employment during my time in the United Kingdom. I do not know where I will be beginning my travels when I arrive, but will probably start in London and venture to Scotland. I have applied and paid for my registration with the UKCC (which shouldn't be a problem) and I look forward to exploring your country and hospitals.

I have been informed today that in order to recieve a work visa I will require an employer to apply on my behalf. Is your agency able to assist with work visas? I am under 25 years of age so I am able to get a general working visa, but need assistance to work as a professional. Could you please write back and tell me a little more about the process. I am a professional who will be in the UK for approx. 1 year and I think working for an agency would prove the ideal way to work. I have been informed that your agency is reputable and supportive of their staff. I hope to hear from you soon to discuss the matter further.

Have a great day.
Yours sincerly

Subject: Question about nursing practice.
Date: 27 March 1998 9:12

Dear colleagues across the pond,

I am a Registered Nurse practicing in the United States. First off, after looking at your web site, it is clear that nurses in Scotland are just as twisted as their Yank counter parts. To see an example of our humour, if you haven't seen it already, take a gander at http://www.jocularity.com. It is the web site for a nursing humour magazine. Now to the real reason for my message. I am planning to attend a graduate school to be certified as a Nurse Anesthatist, and I was wondering if there exists a similar nursing function in Scotland. If there is such a position, how would an American go about securing employment as a Nurse Anesthatist in Scotland. As you might guess, I am interested in practicing in Scotland for a time after my graduation.
Thanks for the laughs from your site.

Sincerely,
Dennis RN, BSN, CCRN

I have wanted to visit England since I was a teenager, many yrs ago. I wonder whether you have any need for a mature, highly educated, extremely professional RN with BS in nursing and Master's degree in Public Health both from the University of Illinois. I am certified as a Certified ET Nurse, which means I am highly skilled and able to practice independently in the areas of wound, ostomy, and incontinence care: assessment, treatment recommendations, reassessments, patient and staff education, etc. I also have 14 years experience in home health care.
Would love to hear from you.

I am possibly visiting SW in April. I have family in Taunton/Bristol area and am enquiring to ask if there is any possibility of temporary work for a couple of weeks. Can you advise me as to whether there would be any chance of employment? I am coming back for the flying visit to see my close friend and it would help to be able to subsidise my visit!
